You will need a National Relay Service account before you can make overseas calls from Australia. Costs for overseas calls will be charged to this account.
Calling overseas
To call overseas, dial:
- 133 677 – for all Type and Read, Speak and Read, and Type and Listen users
- 1300 555 727 – for Speak and Listen (SSR) users
Give the country and area code and telephone number of the person you wish to call.
Calling from overseas
If you are on holidays or working overseas you can call your family or friends in Australia, through the National Relay Service. Likewise, if someone overseas wants to call you, they can do so through the NRS. An NRS account is not needed. To call the NRS from overseas, dial:
- +61 7 3815 7799 – for all Type and Read, Speak and Read, and Type and Listen users
- +61 7 3815 8000 – for Speak and Listen (SSR) users
Give the area code and telephone number of the person you wish to call.
Reverse charge calls
If you want to make a reverse charges call, the person receiving your call must have a National Relay Service account so they can be charged for the call. The receiver may accept or reject your call and the NRS will not accept calls from an overseas reverse charge call service.
To call reverse charges, dial:
- 1800 555 722 Only reverse charge calls can be accepted on this number.
The relay officer will let you know if the receiver accepts or rejects your reverse charge call.
