Telling people that you use the NRS

You can let people you deal with know that you make relay calls. You can encourage them to phone you through the NRS.

Let your friends and family know

Many people that you know might not be aware that you use the National Relay Service for your phone calls. They might not even understand what a relay call or use of a TTY involves.

We can help you let people know how to call you. If you are deaf or have a hearing impairment, order some of our free postcards to send to friends, family members and your support network.

I you have a speech impairment, you can order this postcard.

Advertise your phone number

We can provide you with NRS caller cards. These cards have space for your phone number and tell people how to phone you through the NRS. They also let you tell people:

  • which relay call option you use, and
  • whether you use your own voice or a voice output device.

See the caller card for TTY users.

See the caller card for Speak and Listen users.

In places where you advertise your phone number, for example as part of your "signature" on emails, you might want to include a short explanation and a link back to this website.

Example of what you could say as part of your email signature

" [Your phone number] (Please note that I have a hearing impairment and that this is a TTY phone. A relay officer from the National Relay Service will type your words to me as you speak. To learn more see www.relayservice.com.au) "
