Difficulties with your call

Sometimes you might have trouble with your relay call. Check here for some possible solutions.

TTY calls

Occasionally your call may be cut off, your voice may not be heard, or words on a TTY may become mixed up (known as jumbling). These are technical faults. Note that relay officers do not decide to disconnect calls themselves except if the caller is abusive.

When jumbling occurs on your TTY you can sometimes fix it by pressing the space bar twice.

If the problem still occurs, check for other causes. Jumbling can be caused by:

  • background noises such as television, planes flying overhead or children yelling
  • closeness to electrical equipment, or
  • noise on the phone line.

You can check your line by using your TTY from a neighbour's phone line. If the call works fine then your line is likely to be the problem and  you should contact your phone company.

You can check your TTY by directly phoning another TTY user. If you still can't make the call then you should contact your TTY supplier to get your TTY checked.
