Note:
These instructions:
- are accurate for HyperTerminal version 5.1 onwards. The latest version of HyperTerminal currently available is version 6.3.
- are not applicable if you are using a Mac or have a version of HyperTerminal older than version 5.1.
- may not apply with Windows Vista.
Go to the Start menu:
Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> Communication -> HyperTerminal

Type a name for the connection i.e. NRS |

Type in the phone number 133677 or 1800555667 (or any of the NRS numbers) and select your particular dialup modem from the ‘Connect using' list.
Note that you will need an 0 at the start of the phone number if you are in an office using a PABX system (prefix may be different depending on the system) i.e. 0, 133677.

Click on ‘Modify...' |

Remove the tick from ‘Use country/region code and area code'
Select ‘Configure'

Select a ‘Port speed' of 19200 (Port speed should be reduced to a lower rate one step at a time while troubleshooting when unable to connect to the NRS eg. try 9600 if unable to connect at 19200)
Leave ‘Data Protocol' and ‘Compression' on default settings if available.
Leave the ‘Flow control' set to Hardware.
Click the Advanced tab.

Select the ‘Data bits' to 8
‘Parity' to None
‘Stop bits' to 1 and click OK.
Select the Settings tab.

Change the ‘Emulation' to ANSI and click on ASCII setup.

Tick both the ‘Send line ends with line feeds' and ‘Echo typed characters locally' and click OK.
Click OK again. You are now setup to dial the NRS.
